Faculty of Architecture

History of Faculty

The most important dates in the history of the Faculty of Architecture of Wroclaw University of Science and Technology 

  • 1945    The Division of Architecture was created as part of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and was located in the main building of Wroclaw University of Science and Technology  at 27 Wybrzeże Wyspiańskiego Street. The Division comprised five departments: Freehand Drawing (head: professor Dobrosław Czajka), History of Architecture (head: professor Tadeusz Broniewski), Utilitarian Architecture (head: professor Zbigniew Kupiec) Urban and Residential Construction (head: professor Aleksander Kapuściński, and since December 1946 contractual professor Tadeusz Wróbel) and General Engineering (head: professor Stanisław Mielnicki). In the academic year 1945/46 sixty five students were taught by fifteen academics.
  • 1949    The Architectural Division was transformed into the independent Faculty of Architecture. On 23 February 1950 the first Faculty Board meeting was held.
  • 1950    The Faculty obtained the right to grant the doctoral degree.
  • 1960    The Faculty obtained the right to run postdoctoral programs (habilitation).
  • 1968    The Faculty of Architecture was moved from the main building of Wroclaw University of Science and Technology  to the building at 53/55 Bolesława Prusa Street. The organizational structure of the University was transformed and two institutes were created at the Faculty of Architecture: the Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning and the Institute of History of Architecture, Art and Technology.
  • 1989    As a result of another reorganization of the university structure, three new departments and five centers were created at the Faculty of Architecture, apart from the two already existing institutes.
  • 1991    A new MSc program was created: MSc in Spatial Planning
  • 1993    The PhD study program was started.
  • 1997    The Faculty published the first issue of the Architectus journal.  The postgraduate program in Landscape Architecture was introduced.
  • 1998    The concentration in Heritage Protection was created within the Architecture and Urban Planning MSc program.
  • 2001    The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) was introduced.
  • 2003    The MSc Program in Architecture and Urban Planning was awarded accreditation from the Accreditation Committee for Technical Universities.
  • 2006    The major in Architecture and Urban Planning was awarded accreditation with distinction from the National Accreditation Committee.
  • 2007    Two-cycle system was introduced for both majors.
  • 2010    The MSc Program in Architecture and Urban Planning was awarded accreditation with distinction from the National Accreditation Committee.
  • 2011    The MSc Program in Spatial Planning was awarded positive accreditation from the National Accreditation Committee.
  • 2012  Campus renovation program launched
  • 2012  The Faculty rewarded  academic cathegory "A" by Ministry of Science and Higher Education's Commitee for Evaluation of Scientific Institutions.
