What can be a better recommendation of the specialisation Architecture and Urban Planning than the successes of our graduates? Their professional careers make us proud. Establishing their own practices, they become professionals in renowned architectural offices, leading own practices or choose various careers around our core specialisations. Alumni can also become urban planners and interior designers, specialize in visualisations and scale-models but also work as graphic designers, curators, stage creators, design teachers, historians, consultants, researchers and developers… at all times circling around architecture and urban planning.

The aim of Architecture and Urban Planning specialisation is to enable students to build the practical skills needed to make an effective contribution to practice, whilst also laying the foundations of understanding of principles, that will guide long-term career development. The link with practice is integral to specialisation and reflects in the number of staff who are active professionals. Our staff promotes a competitive economy by educating architects and designers, who are socially aware, developing their skills and knowledge and devising innovative problem-solving-oriented solutions. Teachers allow students to be creative and unconventional thinkers and show how to combine academic skills with practical knowledge within architectural practice. The program in Architecture and Urban Planning equips students with managerial skills and proficiency in foreign languages, especially technical English language.

Last but not least it’s not only the study program, that shapes our graduates. It’s the city of Wroclaw with unique atmosphere and history. The urban tissue, which is not yet defined, which is an open laboratory of urban and architectural design. Wrocław is an interesting, multi-layered story and exceptional in Europe due to its geopolitical location. It’s a kaleidoscope of architecture and urbanism, colourful and open to future ideas – also yours!

New flexible course matrix

Architecture is wide and complex discipline, being a combination of different disciplines and specializations. Thus, new the new programme of studies at specialisation Architecture and Urban Planning (ENG) offered at Faculty of Architecture at Wroclaw University of Science and Technology was developed as interdisciplinary and flexible. You can choose your own unique way of being an architect and work in different aspects of this captivating, borderless discipline.

During studies you will be able to develop creativity and individual approach towards design. Supported by our team of architectural and urban professionals, who understand the importance of both: theory and practice, history and future, digital and traditional technologies, encouraging students to actively share knowledge and experience. Blending knowledge and skills from main core subjects with the physical and social sciences, technology and engineering, offered program explores innovative ways to create more sustainable development.

The elective design courses, which state a majority in the studies programme, cover various aspects of built environment. You will be able to learn different approaches to scale, context, function, building and urban solutions and structure. With your own creativity and commitment as a driving force. In the selected studios there will be a possibility to work on complex and multifunctional design, combining: urban planning, residential substance, public buildings, industrial developments or contemporary city hybrids.

Theoretical courses will introduce you to the knowledge supporting your design. You can also discover historical depths of buildings. It’s so much easier and more passionate in the city of Wroclaw, with its heritage. You will be supported with theoretical courses describing design methods, software assistance, workshops on structure, acoustics, art and much more.

The studies ends with an unique opportunity to design your own project in the specialty of your choice – diploma project supported by a seminar and individually chosen design workshops (i.e. building technologies, construction design, detail).

Owing to the fact that the Faculty participates in the international student exchange system, architecture students from Wroclaw have the opportunity to study abroad by enrolling in international exchange programs offered by the EU. Foreign students from 49 partner schools of architecture and planning join our Faculty or take part in the LPP/Erasmus exchange program, taught in English.

The programme of the Architecture and Urban Planning specialisation had been recently adapted to the requirements of the "Standard of training to prepare for the profession of architect" (Regulation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Journal of Laws 2019, item 1359), and its graduates receive the Master's Degree in Architecture.
