3D Scanning and Modeling Laboratory - LabScan 3D
Head: Professor Jacek Kościuk
The laboratory is equipped with unique measurement solutions offered by Leica Geosystems and an abundance of 3D modeling software.
3D scanning and modeling is a very useful tool in heritage protection and contemporary archaeology as it enables quick recording of even the most complicated heritage sites and archaeological sites for the purposes of research, archiving or design documentation. 3D scanning has proved useful in spatial planning and management of urban complexes - it is currently the only technology capable of obtaining data for generating three-dimensional models of cities and housing developments in a time- and cost-effective manner. The laboratory offers 3D scanning and modeling services for various sectors, such as highway and civil engineering, manufacturing, chemical and petrochemical industry and the extractive industry. LabScan 3D works for crisis management, the military, crime detection, etc. The laboratory was financed through the Sectoral Operational Programme Increase of Economic Competitiveness, project no 1/1.4.2/2/2005/87/168/464. There is also a HDS Scanning Teaching Center.
