Graduated in Civil Engineer at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1983) and at the University of Padua, Italy (1986). Specialist in Plasma and Thermonuclear Fusion Engineering (University of Padua, 1986); Master of Sciences in Civil Engineering (Polytechnic School of the University of Sao Paulo, 1992); Doctor of Sciences in Civil Engineering (Polytechnic School of the University of Sao Paulo,  (1994). Defended his ‘Livre-Docencia’ (‘Habilitation’) in Theory of Structures by the Polytechnic School of the University of Sao Paulo, in 2003. Associate Professor at the Polytechnic School of the University of Sao Paulo (2003). Visiting Professor at the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, Princeton University (2016).

Professor at the Graduate Programs on Structural Engineering and Architecture and Urban Studies of the University of Sao Paulo, holding courses on Light Structures and Computational Mechanics. Advisor for several Doctor and Master of Sciences students. Chairman of the ‘I Simpósio Nacional sobre Tensoestruturas / I Simposio Latinoamericano de Tensoestruturas’ (Sao Paulo, 2002). Vice-Chairman of the ‘II Simposio Latinoamericano de Tensoestructuras’ (Caracas, 2005). Member of the Scientific Committees of the “IASS 2008 Congress / III Simposio Latinoamericano de Tensoestructuras” (Acapulco, 2008), the “IABSE – IASS 2011 Symposium – International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering / International  Association for Shell and Space Structures”  (London, 2011), the “IV Simposio Latinoamericano de Tensoestructuras”, (Montevideo, 2011), the “V Simposio Latinoamericano de Tensoestructuras” (Santiago of Chile, 2012), the “IASS 2013 Symposium” (Wroclaw, 2013), the “First International Conference Transformables 2013” (Seville, 2013), the VII International Conference on Textile Composites and Inflatable Structures (Barcelona, 2015), the IASS 2015 Symposium (Amsterdam, 2015) and the IASS 2016 Symposium (to be held in Tokyo, 2016).
